Overview

According to the different socio-cultural factors that create each national context, Youth

work has a very broad understanding. The conditions of youth work are influenced by the history

of the country, the educational system, the economic capacity, the civil society and all the other

aspects that influence the life of youth and those that work with them.

Youth work is a broad term covering a broad scope of activities of a social, cultural,

educational or political nature by, with and for young people. Increasingly, such activities also

include sport and services for young people. Youth work belongs to the area of "out-of-school"

education, as well as specific leisure time activities managed by professional or voluntary youth

workers and youth leaders. Youth work is going to be in different ways, such examples are: by

youth led organizations, organizations for youth, informal groups or through youth services and

public authorities. It is provided and delivered in different forms and settings such as open-

access, group-based, programme-based, outreach and detached. It has given shape at local,

regional, national and European level. Youth Work helps young people to reach their full

potential. It encourages personal development, autonomy, initiative and participation in society.

The Training and Education in Youth Work directly reacts to current trends in youth

workers’ education promoting cross-sector cooperation between non-formal and formal

education. In addition, the process and growing progress of Youth Work area needs to compile

Training and Education in one component that exist in Youth Work. As, education refers to

formal and non-formal one, the Course Module covers both of them in order to make the

difference and to build the bridge between them. In the field of non-formal education, including

youth work and adult education, commonly the term “training” is used for educational activities

and processes. Similarly, the term “trainer” refers for those who design and implement

educational activities (training activities) with and for young people or adults. Nevertheless, the

information included here could also be applied in formal education and, therefore, to teaching

and to teachers, as well as to pedagogic approaches, principles and methodologies for education

in general, as well as for Youth Workers, which is a new trend in Youth Education based on non-

formal context.

Aim and objectives. The aim of this course module is to raise the awareness and knowledge

of the young people (future youth workers) towards the Training and Education in Youth Work

and the determined objectives are the following:

- To provide information regarding the quality in Training and Education in Youth Work;

- To familiarize Youth Workers about the Training and Education in Youth Work;


- To raise young people’ awareness and knowledge regarding Youth Work;

- To share significant topics on Youth Work, they may include in their work with young

people;

- To identify new technics and methods in order to apply them in Youth Workers’ activity;

- To reflect on their own approach and methodology of working with young people;

- To strengthen Youth Workers’ potential and capacities in their activity;

- To break and avoid any difficulties/issues in Youth Worker’s activity;

- To share the importance of the international recognition of Youth Work;


This Course Module is an important part of InYouS Course, as being specific one, based on

Training and Education in Youth Work, identifying the connection between formal and non-

formal education, as well strengthening young people potential to become Youth Workers. It

contains topics such as: Higher Education in Youth Work, Vocational Education and training in

Youth Work, Intercultural competence within youth work education, Mentoring, Training for

volunteer and recognition of learning in trainings, The meaning of social inclusion, youth rights

and participation, Training for Trainers, Education and Training Opportunities Provided by

European Programmes.

The knowledge and skills provided by this Course Module can be used in Youth

Worker’s activity, for the beginners and professionals. This Course Module contains more

practice than theory, as well as it can be used as a guide during multiple activities of young

people.
